I can recall many times in my life where I have been tested and tempted by false doctrines, false signs, lying wonders, with private revelations that masqueraded as truth, but in reality were lies.
I doubt that any of us have escaped being so tempted by satan.
Personally, I know many people that have embraced similar "private insights" and so-called "secret truths" that were revealed to them in some spiritual fashion. The pulpits and the pews are filled with people who have such convictions or special enlightenments.
But, the Word expressly warns us to be on guard against false teachings and to be of sound doctrine. For Satan can appear as an angel of light and will work miracles designed specifically to deceive even the elect, if possible. He will stop at nothing in his attempts to derail us, for he is the master deceiver and our adversary.
These are the titles that are not to be taken lightly. Satan's titles are well deserved; he earned them. His victories represent the eternal loss of those defeated.
The power of miracles may indicate a spiritual origin, but even so, this is NOT the basis for determining what is truth.
We are instructed to test the spirits to see if "these things be so". We are to test ALL things against the written Word of God... and ONLY the Word of God.
Scripture is how God chose to reveal Himself to us in these latter days. Scripture must be the yardstick by which we measure truth.
God is not offended when we TEST these things; in fact this is His command. After all, the truth will endure testing no matter how vigorous. It is falsehood that cannot pass the test. Truth reveals error.
As our time remaining is short, I challenge each of us to vigorously test our doctrines and beliefs against the entirety of scripture.
If your insights and revelations pass this test, then rejoice for what the Lord hath revealed unto you. However, if it fails the test of scripture, then it becomes imperative to discard it and guard your heart.
It is far better to accept a harsh truth than to embrace a smooth lie. Truth always prevails. Lies will perish along with all liars.
Where scripture prohibits, we must obey, and do all we can to oppose that which is forbidden. When scripture is silent, we must honor the silence and be very careful NOT to approve of doctrines born within the margins of silence. Silence means silent!
One of Satan's most deadly poisons is his claim that truth is relative. However, by its very nature, truth is pure and absolute, or it cannot be truth at all. Mix truth with falsities, and you end up with deadly poison, no matter how dilute.
I believe that God protects the truth and freely reveals it via The Holy Spirit, but only to those in Christ who actively seek it.
After the fall of man, Satan became the ruler of this world. His evil power is through deception. Fallen man is deprived of discerning truth by the depravity of his sin. He is therefore subject to PERCEPTION. Perception's flaw is that it is vulnerable, if not predisposed, to deception.
Satan can, and does, masquerade as a pseudo-holy-spirit and so we as Christians, must depend upon God's Word for the testing of ALL doctrine. We must take every thought captive! The Holy Spirit authored the Word. It is only by, and through His Word that we can detect the counterfeit - the imposter.
The Holy Bible is a precious gift, a love letter to us.
Think of the countries that have outlawed it through the ages, including our time. Think of the countless people who sacrificed their lives bringing it to us, and of those who died simply because they possessed a Bible.
We should NOT take our Bibles for granted! In America (today anyway), we have free access to the Word. Don't you think we should at least make every effort to be well acquainted with HIS Word? Can we reject His gift and yet still call Him our Master?
Discernment is probably the second most precious gift, second only to the gift of love. Discernment does not make us book-wise only - but it reveals to us The Living Lord, in Person, One on one! As partakers in Christ, as God's children, we only need ask for it and our request will be granted.
Please friends, let us all PRAY for discernment... and then let us commit to READING our Bibles!
The truth shall set you free!
